ADHD is often misunderstood as a problem of effort or motivation. Clinically, it is neither.
An ADHD assessment in Adelaide looks beyond how hard you’re trying and instead focuses on patterns. Long-standing patterns of attention regulation, impulsivity, and executive functioning.
At Integrative Psychology Associates (IPA), assessments are designed to trace those patterns back, often to childhood, and then follow them forward into adult life. ADHD is neurodevelopmental. Its roots don’t suddenly appear out of nowhere.
Analysing where these patterns began can shift how you see current struggles, and solutions become more precise.
IPA provides ADHD assessment in Adelaide and across South Australia via telehealth, using evidence-based diagnostic frameworks grounded in structured clinical interviews and validated assessment measures.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder that begins in childhood and affects the brain's executive functioning. Common symptoms of ADHD include difficulty paying attention, being easily distractible, having an inability to sit still or be restless, disorganisation and problems prioritising, forgetting or losing important items and impaired functioning at school, work or home. There are three types of ADHD: inattentive, hyperactive/impulsive and combined.

IPA provides assessment and diagnosis for ADHD disorder in both children and adolescents. ADHD assessments are conducted by psychologists trained in administering and interpreting standardised psychological tests. They provide information about behaviour that is severe enough to negatively impact day to day functioning.
ADHD assessment utilises standardised assessment to explore problem behaviour and comorbid disorders in children six to 18 years. It will involve a multi informant assessment that considers information obtained through interviews with parents or carers and teachers at school. For older children there is also a self-report component.

A child ADHD assessment in Adelaide often starts when everyday tasks begin to feel disproportionately hard. Sometimes a teacher raises it or parents have had a quiet sense for a while. In children and teenagers, ADHD may look like:
Constantly drifting off in class
Zoning out while doing homework
Emotional reactions that escalate faster than expected
Continuous difficulty managing routines, transitions, and belongings
We look at how these patterns show up across home and school, and how they’ve developed over time, to distinguish ADHD from anxiety, learning differences, or situational stress.

Our comprehensive approach includes clinical interviews, behavioural observations, and standardised rating scales to capture a holistic picture of the person's behaviour across various contexts.
